‘Tiny House Nation’ to Feature the Construction of Hanchett’s Family Home

Clayton and Carol Hanchett have decided to sell their 1,260-square-foot Aloha Townhouse and join the "Tiny House Nation" movement after giving birth to their second child.

According to The Oregorian, for the upcoming episode of FYI Network Reality Show, "Tiny House Nation," the show's producers and crew helped the couple in planning for their 384-square-foot home. The construction of the custom tiny house and the family's story will be airing in June.

Celebrity contractor Chuck Mitchell designed two custom trailers for the couple's tiny house. Each measures 8 by 24 feet. One trailer designed as a space for the couple's two children ages 3 and 1 while the other one will be used as the kitchen and a small living space plus a bathroom with a tub. The two trailers will be attached by a glass-enclosed deck. The couple's twin houses will be towed and placed in Yamhill County, a rural property owned by Clayton's mom.

Building producer, Calvin Collins of "Tiny House Nation" said, "The number one draw right now with a tiny home is that it's a nicely, high-end designed place, but it's just smaller. They get all these features of a very high-end house, but what their sacrifice is, is space."

As for the couple, they're in the process of learning how to be good parents to their children. They realize that in order for them to achieve such goals they should have more time with the kids and have fewer things that will be a distraction to them.

The Hanchett's will make enough money with the sale of their Aloha townhouse and the Portland Real Estate Market will also give them financial incentive. They budget for their custom built tiny house is between $20,000 and $40,000 according to Collins.

Meanwhile in a report by KATU, with prices of real estate soaring including rentals, it is not surprising to know that Portland figures to be one of the most sought after property markets in the country. It ranked number 10 in a recent survey and the median rates for home in Portland is expected to increase by at least 5 percent.
