2012 Indiana Tornadoes Aftermath: Snow Covers Damaged Homes, Debris After Tornadoes Ravage U.S. [PHOTOS]

More than three inches of snow fell in Kentucky and Indiana late Sunday, adding a new complication to the whirlwind of storms that have hit the South and Midwest.

The snowfall is the latest in a nearly week-long storm that has devastated homes throughout the Midwest and South, killing 39 people and injuring hundreds across five states. More than 40 tornadoes swept through the region, according to the National Weather Service.

The added snow will make it increasingly difficult for residents, emergency responders and clean-up crews to pick up the pieces and return to normal life. The weather conditions have left roads slippery and damaged homes wet. Glass, metal and other debris remain hidden beneath a layer of snow
