Red Velvet Oreo Confirmed: Release Date & Where to Buy?

It turns out the rumors about the Red Velvet Oreos are actually true.

In a report by Us Weekly, a Nabisco rep confirmed that the new flavored Oreos will be available starting Feb. 2 in U.S. stores.

The limited edition Red Velvet Oreo features a cream cheese filling stuffed between two red-tinged chocolate cookies.

According to Chicago Tribune, the last time Nabisco came out with a completely different colored Oreos was way back in 2004 when it introduced the Golden Oreo. Previously, the brand released other unique flavors such as Halloween's Candy Corn rendition, Watermelon, Ice Cream, Caramel Apple, and Birthday Cake.

Janda Lukin, senior director of Oreo North America, said that there is only one production run of Red Velvet Oreos and added that they would be in stores for six to eight weeks.

It looks like netizens are freaking out over the confirmation of the Red Velvet Oreos. Hollywood celebrities and prominent personalities tweeted their excitement over the new product.

Scandal actress Kerry Washington tagged her costar Katie Lowes on Twitter to direct her to the story about the release of the Red Velvet Oreos. Likewise, music video director, who has worked with Justin Bieber, could not contain his excitement about the new product when he tweeted about it.

Even R.L. Stine, author of the children's book series Goosebumps, seems intrigued by the buzz going around the product.

ESPN personalities Lind Cohn and Darren Rovell seem to agree that the Red Velvet Oreos are a big thing right now.

But Buzzfeed had something different to say about the new product. The PR company of Oreo furnished sample products the news media company for its review. However, Buzzfeed pointed out that the product turned out to be "cheesy" and "dumb."

Some people who got a taste of the new flavor said that it tasted just like a regular Oreo. Others said that they liked the smell better than the actual taste.

One reviewer said that the creme tastes like real cream cheese frosting, but it does not have the taste that Oreo is known for. Others agreed that the creme was too sweet for their liking. They added that the product does not taste anything like red velvet.

But overall, it seemed that the reviewers enjoyed the cookie very much and said that it did not taste anything like rust. Some people commented about soft, fluffy, and sweet the cream cheese creme filling is.

Although Buzzfeed pointed out that nothing would compare to the original Oreo, the Red Velvet Orea was a "cookie worth eating." In fact, one reviewer said that consuming the cookie was like "eating a slice of cake that was velvety and red."
