Five Simple Tips in Choosing an Area Rug

In decorating a home, there are many items that you can use to make it beautiful. That would include some furniture, accessories and others. When you get your furniture, you will surely think of adding an area rug under it to define the space. But yes, you can't just buy any area rug because there are things that you need to consider.

Some may even ask about the right positioning of the area rug. Should it be placed on or off the rug? Should it go under the bed or beside the bed? What is the right size for an area rug in the dining area? What type of rug should you buy? There are many questions indeed but choosing an area rug can be summarized in 7 simple ways.

1. Choose a big area rug. You'd rather buy an area rug that is too big rather than one that is too small. But when we say too big, we don't mean that it should be the size of the room, rather, it should be the size of your seating area. You can also try experimenting with shapes as well as what Home Design Lover stated.

2. See to it that the furniture is on the rug. When it comes to placing the area rug, it has to be underneath the furniture. You can let everything fit inside the area rug or you can at least see to it that the front feet of the sofa and chairs are inside the rug. To achieve a balanced look, allocate at least 6 inches of space beyond the arms of your chair or sofa.

3. Experiment with layering. Yes, you can also play with layering your area rug over wall-to-wall carpeting in order to add texture and color to your room. When layering, you can use a smaller area rug but see to it that it is placed right up to the edge of the chairs. Also, do not use area rugs that are too thin because it will just slide and will not lay flat.

4. Make it the focal point of your space. You can do this by choosing area rugs with patterns, color and texture that will add appeal to you room. For an interior with neutral furniture upholstery, use a patterned area rug. But if you already have patterns everywhere, it would be good to use an area rug that is plain in color.

5. Get the right size. If you cannot get the right size for your area rug, you can consider customizing one to make sure that it will look great in your interior or you can buy a carpet and cut it in the right size for your space.
