Ron Popeil puts historic ranch on the market for just under $5 million

Ron Popeil, a charismatic salesman whose products have pulled more than $2 billion during the last four decades, has just put his Santa Barbara estate up for sale for $4,995,000, reports Zillow.

Located at 5100 San Marcos Pass Road, the estate, called Rancho Quinta Ladera, is a 150-acre ranch just 15 minutes from downtown Santa Bar.

The main home of the estate was built in 1898 and covers 20,125 square feet. It includes five bedrooms and three bathrooms, fireplaces and plenty of natural light, including skylights in the kitchen. The flooring is done with hardwood throughout

In addition, the property comes with a two-bedroom guest house, several outbuildings, six stall barns, two round pens and a feed room. It also boasts an expansive riding arena, a detached garage, a pasture and more than 700 olive trees.

According to the listing, the estate offers miles of riding trails through ancient oaks and Manzanita and provides views of the Santa Ynez Valley and San Rafael mountains. The estate includes natural springs, lichen-covered boulders and smooth wide trails.

Troy Hoidal of Truly Great Homes, who has the listing, told Zillow that Popeil paid $2.1 million for it in 2007. Considered to be a historic property, originally the estate was a fishing lodge, with the San Ynez River flowing beside it. Later, it was converted into a Western resort, ideal for hunting and fishing.

Seventy-eight-year-old Popeil, who has been often described as the "salesman of the century," owns another home in Beverly Hills. Popeil was voted by Self Magazine readers as one of the 25 people who have changed the way we eat, drink and think about food.
