Urban Homes Feature a Cedar Style Property

Cedars, is one of the oldest community in the South downtown of Dallas. It has been undergoing change to walkable, livable place, returning to its historic origin. There are changes in zoning which is set by 1818 Browder. The main point is to make the outdoor, urban.

The Dan Shipley home at 1818 Browder is at the trim lot in the Cedars community. The material pallet of stucco, cement panels and sheet metal pay home to the location's industrial roots. There is a continuity of materials from inside to outside functions to make all elements uniformed.

The house is positioned to the property lines so that side yards are integrated into a single courtyard corner that is defined by the house and the 10 foot high tall stucco wall. The narrow courtyard has the impact of expanding exterior spaces.  While, the inner features of the two storey living space surrounding the courtyard, makes a good impression of the entire property. The sliding doors provide privacy to the entire space but maintain the view of the background. The floors are concrete red oaks in the ground level and there are fixtures and finishes in the entire living space accented the second level.

As for the owner's favorite space, he would say the main areas like kitchen, dining room and living room, all three overlap each other, still retain their own spaces by materials and color. The guests will definitely enjoy the glide on roller blade wheels of the sliding doors and the light fixtures of the living room that are basic industrial fixtures made with wood and copper detailing.

Materials are maintained monolithic and simple, openings are defined clearly to the balanced and site with a metal facing that mirrors the shadows of the trees on the simple canvass of the house.
