"Ghostbusters" fans will be happy to hear that aside from the all-female reboot set to happen, another project is in the works. The movie will supposedly feature "Magic Mike" actor Channing Tatum and "Guardians of the Galaxy" star Chris Pratt.
In a new report by Deadline, Sony Pictures is said to have formed Ghostcorps, a new production company that aims to expand the supernatural franchise's projects. Those leading the way for the new company include Ivan Reitman and Dan Aykroyd, the original masterminds to "Ghostbusters."
The new project is different from Paul Feig's on-going film that stars Kristen Wiig and Melissa McCarthy set for release in 2016. Reports indicate that the film will be produced and directed by Joe and Anthony Russo, ("Captain America: The Winter Soldier") with script penned by Drew Pearce ("Iron Man 3"). Moreover, another name associated with the film is actor Channing Tatum of Sony's "22 Jump Street" films. He's said to be eyed as both a producer and film cast member to play one of the movie's Ghostbusters.
Providing more details about the film, Bada*s Digest did indicate that the new project "isn't all-male. It isn't 'guy-centric'."
While guys are cast in major roles of the film, its a "movie that spins out of the chemistry between real-life friends Channing Tatum and Chris Pratt. This isn't a case of 'everybody wants Chris Pratt in their movie,' this is a case of these two guys being pals and wanting to make this movie together." Additionally, the site claims it will be "complimentary" to Feig's film that allows for a "legitimate shared universe."
"We want to expand the Ghostbusters universe in ways that will include different films, TV shows, merchandise, all things that are part of modern filmed entertainment," said Ivan Reitman, quoted by Deadline.
"This is a branded entertainment, a scary supernatural premise mixed with comedy. Paul Feig's film will be the first version of that, shooting in June to come out in July 2016. He's got four of the funniest women in the world, and there will be other surprises to come. The second film has a wonderful idea that builds on that. Drew will start writing and the hope is to be ready for the Russo Brothers' next window next summer to shoot, with the movie coming out the following year. It's just the beginning of what I hope will be a lot of wonderful movies," he added.
The all-female "Ghostbusters" reboot is already in production and set to star Wiig and McCarthy along with Leslie Jones and Kate McKinnon.
The film is set to open in theaters July 22, 2016. No trailers have been released.
