Recently, Knoxville has been identified and tagged by the White House as the worst city with recorded COVID-19 cases within the country. But what are the factors and reasons for the said city to be tagged as such by the main government itself?
Knoxville City Suffering From the Worst Number of Recorded COVID-19 in the Country
What happened to the said city and what are the factors that caused it? According to WVLT8 News, the latest report that officially came from the White House said that the city of Knoxville is the worst city in the country with COVID-19 cases. Even though the city has a population of less than a million, the rate of COVID-19 infection per capita is the worst in the country.
As per the report, the current number of recorded COVID-19 cases in the city is 7,384. That number is per 100 thousand citizens, putting them at the top rank of cities with less than a million population with the worst number of COVID-19 infections. The risk of people getting infected with the said virus in the city was 23%, wherein the said number has dangerously increased by 35% overall. The said increase just previously happened the week before the report was released.
Due to that issue, the Governor of Tennessee Bill Lee has asked Tennesseeans to stay inside their homes. They should also limit their outdoor activities and only go out when necessary to do so. Although he has stated that a state-wide mandatory usage of face mask will be not necessary as of the moment. Still, he wants his citizens to follow at least the minimum health protocols that they will establish to lessen the number of infections.
Knoxville's Healthcare System Is Falling Apart as Frontline Workers Voice Out Their Concerns
No thanks to the high number of COVID-19 cases in the said city, the frontline workers (mostly the ones working in the healthcare industry) are voicing out their concerns. According to ABC 6 News, many of them are extremely exhausted frustrated about what's currently happening within their city. They are saying that the current situation is the worst they have experienced in 10 months. They believe that most of the public isn't taking the situation seriously, which has contributed to the status of their city.
Currently, most of the medical frontline workers are working on 12-hour shifts. And during those said shifts, most of them were handling patients that are infected with COVID-19, putting them at great risk of infection. Even though the internal support of most medical staff in most hospitals is stronger than ever, they feel like that isn't enough anymore to handle the physical and mental drain the situation is right now.
They are saying that people should strictly follow the health guidelines and protocols issued by both their local government and health institutions such as the guidelines being issued by the CDC. This is the way the community, in general, can help the medical frontline workers that are risking their lives for them.
