The Fall season is the most beautiful time of the year. It's great to enjoy time outside without dripping sweat or quivering to your bones, and the Fall foliage is in all its glory. Fall months are a great time to escape the city too, and with so many scenic and fun activities nearby, you can always have the chance to go for the day and not have to worry about spending money on lodging. To help play your autumn getaway, here is a list of day trips outside of New York.

According to 6SQFT, in 1790, Washington Irving set the "Sleepy Hollow" in the countryside of the Dutch settlement of Tarrytown (though it wasn't officially named Sleepy Hollow until 1997), as the place had been known for its ghosts and haunting atmosphere. Today, the town is famous for its haunted happenings. The Sleepy Hollow Cemetery is the most famous site in the area, as the place is home to the graves of Irving himself, as well as other big names such as Andrew Carnegie, Walter Chrysler, Samuel Gompers, Elizabeth Arden, Leona Helmsley, Brooke Astor, and William Rockefeller.

Bear Mountain State Park is a 5,067-acre park that offers some of the best vantage points to scope out Fall foliage. It is also perfect for outdoor activities as there are amazing hiking and biking trails and boat rentals. After spending a great outdoor activity, you can chill out with a beer at Bear Mountain's famous Oktoberfest, that runs from 12:00 to 6:00 pm until Oct. 25.

Jack O' Lanterns and Art on Long Island is another great place to visit this Fall where you see a display of 5,000 hand-carved illuminated pumpkins.

6SQFT also added that if you want to experience the full glory of Autumn, look no further than the incredible map from SmokyMountains.com.

The map is the ingenious creation of Wes Melton. "The map will help Fall fanatics everywhere [to] better understand when the Fall season will arrive," Melton adds.
