WWE News: Jerry ‘The King’ Lawler Down With Diverticulitis

Jerry "The King" Lawler was rushed to the hospital Thursaday due to a rare and painful digestive disease. As a wrestling superstar and hall of famer, Lawler has trounced opponents left and right, and has always proven to be one of the greats to have every played the sports; although, this time, it turns out that "The King" is no match to a minuscule.

Jerry Lawler was diagnosed with a digestive disease called "diverticulitis", a rare digestive condition that is characterized by severe abdominal pain, fever, nausea, and marked change in bowel habits, according to Mayo Clinic. There is no known cause for diverticulitis but the physiology of how this disease develops can be explained.

Mayo Clinic explains that diverticulitis starts off as formations on the intestinal lining and is medically termed as diverticula. "Diverticula are small, bulging pouches that can form in the lining of your digestive system. They are found most often in the lower part of the large intestine (colon)... sometimes, however, one or more of the pouches become inflamed or infected. That condition is known as diverticulitis", the Mayo Clinic clarifies.

While the disease is rather uncommon, it is not so strange among combat stars like wrestlers and UFC fighters. It can be remembered that Brock Lesnar also suffered this disease years ago, which forced him to undergo a major surgical operation wherein a portion of his colon was removed, as reported by Cageside Seats. This has compelled the UFC star to lose appearance in the UFC years back. That said, this should not be a surprise for Lawler as he's been engaged in wrestling for many years.

The Cageside Seats reports that the wrestling superstar has been receiving in-patient treatments since his admission a couple of days back and is expected to prolong his stay in the hospital at least not too long before "WWE Raw" commences. He is also expected to take rest and change his diet as complement to his antibiotic intake.

Although it was initially not known if Lawler would be able to make a comeback in the WWE Raw this Monday, as first revealed by The Inquisitr, it was announced by EWrestling News that "It's believed right now that Lawler will be released from the hospital within the next few days." However, there is no fixed date yet as to when he's going to be out of the hospital.

Even if he gets discharged from the hospital before "WWE Raw" kicks off, he would still not be in a sound physical condition to go back to action. He should take a rest then.
