What to Do When Issues Arise With Your Real Estate Agent

A real estate agent often helps make the house buying or selling process an easier and less stressful one. However, given that no one is living in a perfect world, issues and problems are bound to arise. What can you do when you are not in agreement with your real estate agent?

As previously reported here on Realty Today, finding a good real estate agent is a must if you wish to make the whole home buying or selling process a smooth one. As much as you would want to find your dream house by carefully thinking about the features and other factors, you would also want to do the same when looking for a real estate agent to guide and help you with the whole process.

However, issues can sometimes be inevitable, especially when there is a miscommunication or when the agent and the client are not in agreement with each other. Money Crashers notes that despite carefully choosing a real estate agent, some people may still end up feeling dissatisfied and unhappy with their agent.

If, however, your only problem with your agent arose because of miscommunication, then having a brief conversation about the matter can easily solve the issue. The publication also notes that one should carefully read the terms of their contract to determine the course of action to be done in the case of a problem.

For example, the contract may state that the principal-agent relationship can be terminated at any time, which gives you the liberty to end the contract with the agent and find a new one. You may also speak with the broker, who may offer to change your real estate agent with another one.

If things have escalated so much that the broker was not able to address the issue or if you feel that you have been mistreated during your transactions with the agent, the publication notes that one can file a complaint with the state's real estate licensing agency. One can also file a complaint with the National Association of Realtors if the said agent was a member of the board.
