Android L 5.0 Download: Update For HTC One M8 Delayed?

Google has announced that they will be delaying the release of their latest operating system, the Android 5.0 Lollipop, for the Google Play Editions of the HTC One M8 and One M7, Christian Today reported.

HTC's Mo Versi, the Vice President of Product Management, confirmed the news via a series of tweets on his official Twitter account. He addressed other Twitter users on Tuesday and explained that Google was busy and had yet to contact him, promising an update as soon as possible.

Versi finally tweeted hours later that there will be a delay on the Google Play Editions or GPE due to an "unforeseen issue." Unfortunately for HTC users, neither he nor Google announced any alternative release dates of Android L for the units.

This is not the first time Google delayed the Lollipop's release for the HTC One GPE phones, according to Tech Radar.

Google unexpectedly delayed the release at the start of November and simply stated that the delay was because they needed time to "re-spin SW." In other words, they needed to update the Lollipop software before rolling it out to the HTC units.

This pushed back the release to the start of December, specifically Dec. 1. The first day of December has come and gone but it appeared that Google pulled the brakes once more, with no news as to why.

However, one of the possible reasons as to the delay was due to the issues present in Android L, according to JBG News.

Users have reported that they are unable to connect to WiFi and are plagued by choppy videos, lagging issues and the occasional freezing screen. There are also issues with the battery life, despite promises that the Lollipop will showcase improved battery performance. These could be the reasons why Google is holding off on rolling out Android L 5.0 to more units such as the HTC GPEs until they could figure out a solution to the mess.

In related news, the performance of the Google's latest operating system has been considered "somewhat uninspiring," according to Phone Arena.

The Android KitKat has been updated to 33.9 percent of Android units, but the Lollipop is reaching less than 0.1 percent. Further reports state that other Android systems were beating out the Lollipop. The Jelly Bean is present in 48.7 percent of units, the Ice Cream Sandwich at 7.8 percent, the Gingerbread at 9.1 percent and finally, the Froyo at 0.5 percent.

The Lollipop has only been made available for a few weeks though, so there could be a chance that more users will pick up on it as the weeks pass, according to Phone Arena.
