'The Flash' Season 2 Episode: 'Legends of Today' Review, Rocky Start; Ratings Down Compared to 2014 'Arrow' Crossover?

As everyone knows, "The Flash" season 2 episode 8 is not the usual regular episode of the TV series. This is a crossover episode with "Arrow" as a foundation of the upcoming series of The CW, "Legends of Tomorrow."

As always, not everyone shares the same opinion over something. The crossover episodes of "The Flash" and "Arrow" are no exception. The first crossover episode, "Legends of Today," receives its fair share of negative criticism. But it also gained approval to some critics.

IGN states that the first "The Flash" and "Arrow" crossover episode has "plenty of DC goodness." However, it has been noted that at the first half of "Legends of Today" was perceived as pretty confusing and "chaotic-" as the report puts it.

IGN also points out that this episode of "The Flash" paved the way for Falk Hentschel and Casper Crump. Both actors play the roles of Carter Hall aka Hawkman, and Vandal Savage respectively. These two new characters were being commended for their entertaining performances, although they're not the highlight of the "Legends of Today" episode. It is mostly about Kendra's transformation as a Hawkgirl.

As seen in the small screen, Hawkman was merely flying around, did a little fight scenes with "The Flash" and "Green Arrow," then "encourage Kendra to throw herself off a building." Nonetheless, Falk Hentschel had been noticed for his solid performance.

"The Flash" season 2 episode 8 fell short in presenting Vandal Savage as a terrifying menace. He seemed not to be "imposing" as a major villain of "Legends of Tomorrow." He is being envisioned as an immortal that has great power. The only time he looked scary is when he used "his magical MacGuffin stick in the climax."

The crossover has been criticized of having Arrow's presence, since his existence looks like it's not needed at all. Although there are also some best moments in the "The Flash" season 2 episode 8. Comic Book Resources has cited a few like, Cisco and Felicity's one-liners plus Cisco's references to "Indiana Jones," the X-Games, and "Birdman" is definitely amusing. Barry Allen and Oliver Queen have also dropped funny lines "It's your city."

As far as the rating of the first "The Flash" and "Arrow" crossover episode is concerned, Deadline reports that the TV series has "lost some of its footing compared to the inaugural December 2, 2014 crossover with a 12% drop in adults 18-49."
