Gran Turismo 7 Update & Release: Game Out In 2017, Includes PlayStation VR Support & Fast and Furious Car

Fans have long been anticipating the release of "Gran Turismo 7," but during the Paris Game Week, Sony has announced the release of "Gran Turismo Sport" instead, which is a different game. The much-awaited "Gran Turismo 7" currently has an estimated release window of late 2016 or early 2017.

According to Polyphony Digital, the beta test for "Gran Turismo 7" is slated for next year, and fans have been assured that the developers are putting their best efforts to bring the game out by 2017 or earlier, Venture Capital Post reported. Sony Computer Entertainment Europe's President and CEO Jim Ryan is confident that game producer Kazunori Yamauchi can deliver what is promised.

"There's nothing at this stage to suggest that he won't deliver on what was said. He's obviously been working on this for a while now, it's been a while since GT6 released, so we're confident," Ryan told Eurogamer.

Meanwhile, Gran Turismo creator and series producer, Kazunori Yamauchi, has confirmed that "The Fast and The Furious" 1973 Datsun "Fugu Z" 240Z owned by Sung Kang will be a playable vehicle in "Gran Turismo" on PlayStation 4. As to which GT, it is yet to be announced. Sung Kang's Fugu Z, built with Greddy Racing and partners, was selected during the 2015 Gran Turismo Awards.

Because "Gran Turismo Sport" has PlayStation Virtual Reality headset support, it is likely that "Gran Turismo 7" will have the same compatibility. During the EGX 2015, Sony PlayStation president Shuhei Yoshida told Eurogamer that, "Many trial tests we've been doing, some genres just work fine. One of those genres is racing games. So when Gran Turismo comes out on PS4, I'd like to see it support PlayStation VR, yeah."

Yamauchi also shared, "For GT7, myself and my staff have a clear vision: to do everything we couldn't do in GT6. We want to make it very Gran Turismo. By that I mean it's going to be a game that matches the very era that we live in, in 2015 or 2016."
