Modafinil: Could A Real-Life 'Limitless' Pill be Possible?

The plot of TV-series "Limitless" rotates around the brain-enhancing powers that a fictional drug called "NZT" gives to the character, Brian Finch.

Just recently, news about a new brain-enhancing drug, similar to the fictional one in "Limitless", has been acquiring quite a lot of attention. The drug is called Modafinil.

According to CBS Local - Miami, "Many people are claiming Modafinil gives them an edge."

It is important to note that Modafinil is a supplement for sleep disorder and is FDA approved for that function. But a huge number of reviews made by satisfied customers from Amazon is causing the product to develop a following for its off label quality as a "smart pill".

In contrast to the "Limitless" fictional pill, Modafinil does not have known side effects. This is good news if truly proven as a "smart pill". But according to Dr. Katherine Burdick in an interview with CBS Local - New York, this quality of the said drug has to undergo intensive research to be branded and marketed as a legit "smart pill".

Burdick continues and points out that these drugs does not magically give the user ideas, "In general these drugs don't tend to give people ideas they didn't already have. They may make it easier for people to access those ideas."

Further studies are to be made to confirm the drug's alleged brain enhancing effects.

It would be a great help to the older workforce that are threatened by the newer generation of workers who are more accustomed to modern technology. If confirmed, the brain enhancing drug could increase their learning curve and greatly improve the productivity of every company's workforce.

Even before the confirmation of Modafinil's brain enhancing property, thousands of consumers are buying it for that off label quality and are adding up by the minute. Placebo effect? Maybe.
