'Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans' Episode 8 Review: Still Dynamic and Entertaining Despite Deficient Battle Scenes; Wheel of Fortune Evident

"Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" Episode 8 may have not totally met the expectations of its viewers and critics. This week's episode has been rated B, and has been deficient as far as battle scenes were concerned.

"The Form of Closeness," the title of episode 8 of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans," lacked battle scenes. Anime News Network stated that the anime series seems to be taking a break from the real action of the Gundam franchise.

ANN also noted that most of the scenes in "Iron-Blooded Orphans" episode 8 were dialogues. It was either the characters were in a meeting or in some kind of heart-to-heart conversation with another character.

According to the site, "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" episode 8 is "another world-building and character-development episode." The beginning and the ending of "The Form of Closeness" were both interesting, and were even noted to be the critic's favorite scenes. Here's why: the beginning scene revealed the "Tekkadan's victory over Naze Turbine's group from a different angle." The last scene also stood out because the audience learned how Mikazuki and Akihiro looked at the battle that they were engaged in.

ANN further noted that avid followers of "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" felt that "there was a break-in going on elsewhere, but we were caught up in the Gundam battles." The show didn't throw away the action that has been implied in the previous episode, instead the "The Form of Closeness" had "reframed the battle's end from Orga's point of view."

This revelation has definitely tied the loose ends, and the critic has come up with some realization. The realization read: "It's just a subtle reminder of the sobering reality of the Gundam universe, where characters die and are assigned to fates worse than death on a regular basis." The critic also thinks that in the Gundam stories, the wheel of fortune is very evident. One can't be certain that your "enemy today may be your ally tomorrow, and your ally today may be dead in a week."

Reno Gazette Journal similarly thinks that "Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans" lacked the signature action of the show. Things are but calm for an action anime, so to speak. But instead of criticizing what transpired in episode 8, RGJ pondered on how the show would include "Tekkadan's request to be included into Teiwaz." The critic is also looking forward to have Tekkadan fight in the next episode.
