Celebrity Homes For Sale: Gore Vidal's Hollywood Hills Home For Sale for $5.695M

The late American writer and public intellectual Gore Vidal's Hollywood Hills property has been listed on the market for $5.695 million, a report from Los Angeles Times said.

According to the report, Vidal's real estate property sits on half-an-acre lot located in Outpost Estates. It was said that Vidal's posh residence was built in 1929. The home features a Mediterranean-inspired architecture and design.

Vidal's "Mediterranean features hand-carved fireplaces, decorative ironwork and original tiles. A two-story entry topped with a wood-beam ceiling leads to a living room with a fireplace and French doors. A paneled library, a formal dining room, an office, five bedrooms and four bedrooms are within the 4,782 square feet of living space. There's a detached guesthouse. The views take in the surrounding canyon," the report said.

"Mediterranean-style homes mimic those traditionally found in Mediterranean countries, particularly Spain, France and Italy. A low-pitched tile roof, often red, is the most distinctive characteristic of this style of home plan. Usually finished in stucco, these home plans often include extensive outdoor living areas, columns, and arched windows and openings. Wrought-iron balconies and details are also common characteristics of these homes. Mediterranean homes share many features with Spanish home plans like a low-pitched tile roof,   stucco siding, arches over windows and doors,  courtyard, patio, or lanai," Home Plans said.

Los Angeles Times said that Vidal, 86, died three years ago. He was a renowned "a novelist, screenplay writer, political commentator and essayist."

"Mr. Vidal was an occasional actor, appearing in animated form on 'The Simpsons' and 'Family Guy,' in the movie version of his own play 'The Best Man,' and in the Tim Robbins movie 'Bob Roberts,' in which he played an aging, epicene version of himself. He was a more than occasional guest on talk shows, where his poise, wit, good looks and charm made him such a regular that Johnny Carson offered him a spot as a guest host of 'The Tonight Show,' New York Times said.
