'Gotham' Season 2 Episode 9 Review: 'A Bitter Pill to Swallow' Gets Thumbs-Up & Thumbs-Down; Episode 10 Spoilers, Bruce Will Discover the Truth

"Gotham" season 2 episode 9 review gets a thumbs-up and a thumbs-down. Some critics say it stood out, but others say it is the same signature of storytelling, which is about to get old. Nonetheless, "A Bitter Pill to Swallow" the episode turns out eventful overall.

IGN has given a good review of episode of "Gotham" season 2. But first things first, the online magazine has noted first important information before giving the review. It says that despite "A Bitter Pill to Swallow" contains violence, it was aired on Fox. Report states that what was odd is not because it wasn't pulled out, but because it wasn't screened. Other shows like "Supergirl" and "Legends" opted not to air their scheduled episodes because it contains particular violent scenes.

Anyhow, "Gotham" season 2 episode 9 excels. It is noted that the TV series has been super violent in this sophomore run. Most of the episodes have shooting and killing, and tonight gives even more. IGN says this is what the show is all about. "And for all the show's stumblings, it's this element that's actually helped it stand out, and apart, from the other DC shows."

The overall verdict of IGN for episode 9 "Gotham" season 2 is very good because it delivers a lot of important things. The team-up of Penguin and Ed Nygma works very well. Flamingo's killing a rookie police by biting her neck also tops the scene wherein Jerome had slaughtered the police officers. It is also noted how Barnes and Jim Gordon took the "last stand" when a squad of hitmen tried to slay them.

Den of Geek says that "Gotham's" "A Bitter Pill to Swallow" was a heavy specially on "senseless violence and killing." It appears like the violence has been doubled but there's nothing much to get from it. It is observed that this is the series' signature mark in storytelling but the site feels that the show "didn't have anything particularly interesting to say" despite there are already characters that have been hurt or died.

It seems this is how the show wraps up every episode, the viewer walks away being peppered a lot of violence, but then you get nothing much out of it. For example, the death of Officer Park, It was gruesome but doesn't reach out to the emotion of the viewers because the audience barely knew her. "This show never took her existence seriously, but rather as another "good guy" to sacrifice to the insatiable hunger of Gotham and this plot."

Another thing that has been noticed by Den of Geek is the "Gotham" has been redundant in showing its viewer that Jim Gordon is vulnerable at the same time committed and firmed with his belief about law and order. This has been reflected over and over and over. And to quote the site, it says "redundancy is often a form of devaluation." The main character is going through the same crisis of faith. This kind of situation is also getting old.

Now, for the upcoming episode of "Gotham" titled "The Son of Gotham," Comicbook says that in episode 10 there are 2 things that avid followers need to expect. First, Jim Gordon will confront a suspect who is associated to Theo Galavan, but then again Jim failed to extract the information needed. Second, Bruce Wayne is already one step closer to finding out the truth of who really killed his parents.
