HTC One M8 Google Play Edition Finally Receives Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update; HTC One M9 Next in Line

The Android 6.0 Marshmallow OTA update has finally reached the HTC One M8 Google Play Edition (GPE). This is according to Mo Versi, HTC's Vice President of Product Management, who confirmed the update via Twitter.

HTC had announced earlier this year that the One M8 GPE's update release would come in October. Unfortunately, the update did not arrive as expected. Now that it has finally come, the company took to Twitter to share the news and thank the HTC One M8 GPE users for their patience.

"HTC One M8 GPE owners, thank you very much for your patience", Versi wrote on Twitter. "Update for Marshmallow is live now. Enjoy!"

The HTC One M8 Google Play Edition is not supported by its manufacturer for now. This is why the latest Android update being released to the device might have come as a suprise to many users and tech industry observers. Neuro Gadget noted that the device does not work on HTC UI Sense so any updates will be Android-based.

According to International Business Times, the latest update will take up a large space in the device's storage, 450.4 MB. Yet, there have been no complaints received so far from the One M8 GPE users considering that the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update will replace the old Android 5.0 Lollipop.

However, it seems like it is not the only HTC One M device that will get the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update. The HTC One M9 reportedly will also get the new mobile operating system. It will be updated to Android Marshmallow in the upcoming days. The Android 6.0 Marshmallow is said to fix the Stage Fright 2.0 and the issue of touch lag and overheating. The material design is also said to receive many noticeable changes.

There will be some improvements and enhancement to the One M8 GPE once it was updated to Android 6.0 Marshmallow. Meanwhile, One M9 owners would have to wait until HTC announces the release date of the Marshmallow OTA update to their device.
