J.J. Abrams pays big money for Connecticut-styled home in California's Riviera neighborhood

J.J. Abrams, two-time Emmy Award-winning producer, writer and director, has recently acquired a 8,030-square-foot "Connecticut Traditional" estate in Palisades, Calif.'s Riviera neighborhood for $14,469,935, The Real Estalker reports.

Built in 1995, this stately two-story property has a cream-hued façade, a Vermont slate roof and green shutters. The front door leads to a massive foyer with a curved staircase complete with a balcony. The gated, seven-bedroom property sits on a 0.6-acre lot, according to Realtor.com.

The home includes seven full and two half bathrooms, a gourmet kitchen, an office and a wine cellar. The formal living room with floor-to-ceiling bookshelves and a fireplace, meanwhile, is every writer's dream, and the spacious dining rooms with yet another fireplace every entertainer's.

The new home of this 47-year-old writer-director also includes a sun room lined with windows and furnished with a pool table. While the master suite features a sitting space with French doors that open to a private deck (once again equipped with a fireplace), a big center island adorns the luxurious gourmet kitchen.

On the outside, the property boasts a large swimming pool, landscaped gardens and rolling lawns from where one can view the ocean. The rear portion of the property has a porte cochere that leads to a small motor court and adjacent three-car garage. The backyard also includes a loggia with a fireplace.

Soon after the purchase, Abrams, his wife Kathleen McGrath and their three children moved to their new home from their Pacific Palisades residence. The family is said to have lived in this neighborhood for more than 10 years. Earlier, Abrams was also associated with other properties in the area, including a $5.2 million home in The Riviera, which the couple sold in 2005.

A veteran of the film and television world, Abrams is the creator of "Alias" and "Felicity," and the co-creator of "Lost," "Fringe" and "Undercovers." In 2005, Abrams won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Directing for a Drama Series and Outstanding Drama Series for the beginning episodes of "Lost." News broke last year that Abrams has been assigned the task of directing "Star Wars VII," due out next year.
