5 Ways To Prepare Your Home For Selling

Are your listing your property in the market and rushing to find a buyer? Then what you need to do is attract as much potential buyers as possible. But how do you make that happen?

Marilou Young of Virtual Properties Realty suggests that you put on a buyer's hat and make a tour of your home like it's the first time.

"Make notes on what you, as a buyer, would notice," Young advises, "and then repair or replace those items."

Here are 5 ways on how you can prepare for home selling according to Trulia:

Clean, clean, clean

Who wants a part of a filthy looking property? Don't forget to clean every corner of your home especially commonly neglected areas where dust can easily accumulate such as fireplace mantel, ceiling fan blades,  or windows. Also, don't miss to keep appliances and faucets polished so they don't look wore down.

Pay attention to smells

When you have potential buyers coming, avoid anything that might cause any pungent smell that might linger around the house such as cooking strong-smelling dishes. Create a fresh scent and vibe by having mild-scented candles or potpourri around the house.

Repaint the walls in neutral colors

While you love your purple walls, the potential buyer might find this too striking for their taste. To be safe and to cater to a wider market, painting your walls a neutral color like white, tan, or beige could increase your chance of finding a buyer for your property. This is an inexpensive and easy upgrade that would keep the potential buyer's focus to your property's more important features.

Keep the décor simple

While you have tremendous passion for interior design, it would be best to keep that passion toned down and keep your home décor simple during a home showing. Use appropriate accessories and furniture to highlight your property's best features. Give the potential buyer an idea of what they can do with the space without showing them too much of your personal design preferences.

Get rid of personal items

As stated above, the goal is to get the potential buyer to relate to your property in a way that they will see themselves actually living in it. With that said, your personal items such as a portrait of yourself or the entire family might have to get away from the limelight for the meantime. Keep the vibe as fresh and open as possible with as little to no trace of the previous occupants.
