'Mythbusters' Canceled: Discovery Channel Series Ends In 2016

"Mythbusters" will have its final season next year.

Entertainment Weekly exclusively learned that Discovery Channel has canceled one of its long-running TV show, "Mythbusters." The upcoming season will be the final and 14th season for the science series after 248 episodes and 2,950 experiment.

It was revealed that the special effects duo Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman already knew about the show's cancellation since the beginning of 2015.

When asked how he reacted on the news, Savage said, "I can tell you I've been going through all the Elisabeth Kubler-Ross stages of grief - anger, acceptance, denial - it's all been happening."

On the other hand, Hyneman has reached the "acceptance" level.

"We're executive producers on the show and have been for a while. So we were part of that decision. We felt like we've had really strong material for the whole run. It's been 14 years and its just time. We want to go out on a strong point."

EW also learned that Hyneman and Savage has a successful partnership on screen, which the fans truly loved throughout the years, but were never been friends outside the show.

Hyneman noted that they learned to tolerate their differences, which became part of their chemistry and led to the success of "Mythbusters." However, he said that an immediate reunion will not happen. Savage agreed that this will be the end of their "team," but there will be still various opportunities that they will reunite.

The "Mythbusters" duo remained thankful on how it made an impact not only in their lives. They also added that taping the last season this year is their way of paying homage to the series.

"Mythbusters has have given me this incredible platform to tell stories and produce television. I'm really excited about doing more storytelling in the future, in front of and behind the camera," Savage said.

Hyneman added, "Other than embracing how much I've learned and grown in this process, the main thing I value is the show has had an impact on popular culture and science."

Don't fret, Discovery fans! You will still see Savage and Hyneman in the flesh and onscreen until next year. The two will start the last run of their live tour while the final season of "Mythbusters" will start on Jan. 9, 2016.
