'Samsung Galaxy Tab S2 9.7' vs. 'Apple iPad Air 2': Which is Better?

Samsung and Apple tablets are two of the best in the market which has features that impress an eclectic crowd of users. The new Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 and the iPad Air 2 have a similar screen size and price, but apart from its difference in operating system, it has other differing features too.

The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is 9.3 x 6.7 x 0.22 inches in size with 0.96 pounds weight while the iPad Air 2 has dimensions 9.4 x 6.6 x 0.24 with 0.86 lbs. But their screen aspect ratio is both 4:3 with resolution of 2048 x 1536 and pixel density of about 264 ppi. Although the Samsung tablet is marginally slimmer, the Apple iPad is sturdier to touch, Tablet PC Review reported.

Apple’s model is available in dark grey, silver, and gold casings, while Samsung's tablet with Active Matrix Organic LED display comes in black, white, and gold.

Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 is powered by a Samsung Exynos 5433 octa-core processor running at 1.9GHz with a second set at 1.3GHz for battery saving. It has 3GB of RAM and is available in 32GB and 64GB storage capacities, Anandtech reported.

Meanwhile, the iPad Air 2 uses a simpler arrangement, with an Apple A8X 1.5GHz tri-core 64-bit processor. It is available in a range of storage capacities at 16GB, 64GB, and 128GB.

The iPad Air 2 runs on iOS 9.0.2 while the Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 uses Android 5.1.1 Lollipop, which is a recent version of Google’s mobile operating system, but isn't the latest. On its iOS 9 operating system, iPad Air 2 is capable of split-screen multitasking while the Samsung tablet also has a similar feature as well.

In terms of camera, both has 8 megapixel rear cameras and produces high quality photos. Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 has a 2.1MP front camera while the iPad Air 2 has 1.2 MP resolutions for the front camera.

When it comes to pricing, iPad Air 2's 16GB version costs $499, 64GB version is at $599, and a 128GB one is $699. With 4G LTE added, each one will increase to $130 more, International Business Times reported. The Galaxy Tab S2 9.7 32GB storage is priced at $499, and the 64GB version is $599 with additional $150 for a 4G LTE version.
