‘The Vampire Diaries’ Season 7 Spoilers: Ian Somerhalder on How Damon Copes with Elena’s Loss and How ‘TVD’ is Without Nina Dobrev

As "The Vampire Diaries" season 7 opened last night, Ian Somerhalder is now spoiling fans even more on the new events that will take place the vampire drama. People indicated how Damon copes up with Elena's loss and also in helping his friend Alaric with his own troubles.

"The Vampire Diaries" season 7 spoileres reveal that viewers are already aware that due to a curse put into Elena, she is now doomed to sleep for 60 years or more and her lover Damon is still coping with her loss. Somerhalder spoiled that his character may be spending a lot more time going through the agony with the loss of Elena and seeking company with his best friend Alaric on the process.

TVD spoilers also revealed that with Alaric's tragedies who lost his soon-to-be wife and unborn twin babies on his wedding day makes Damon able to forget his own worries and sadness.

"He's really taking a lot of that energy and he's putting it into Alaric," Somerhalder said in the article of People. "Alaric's sort of helped him forget his own sadness, and ultimately he's just really being there for his best friend. He also has Bonnie there sort of as a caring watchdog."

Aside from this, the 36-year-old also said that there wouldn't be any new love interest for Damon this early in the story.

"I don't think so. It's too early. It's this epic love, and I just think that to throw someone in like that would just really diluting and it would negate how intense and beautiful that was." Somerhalder said.

Somerhalder also talked about how the hit vampire series "The Vampire Diaries" is without Nina Dobrev playing in it.

"There's still a lot of elements of [the show that was]," Somerhalder said to The Hollywood Reporter. "We know that she's there, and there's still very much the presence of Elena. This is Mystic Falls without her. I think people are going to like it. This is the evolution of this story. And it's a lot of fun. There's a lot of great interaction with the brothers; there's a lot happening."
