'Outlander' News: Deleted Scenes Released; Caitriona Balfe Talks About Claire and Jamie's Steamy Romance

Claire Randall and Jamie Fraser's romance is one of the most passionate love stories in television. Catriona Balfe, the actress playing Claire, recently sat down with People along with the show's executive producer Ronald D. Moore and "Outlander" author Diana Gabaldon. The three revealed why Claire is very much driven towards Jamie, which is the show's major storyline.

According to the show's producer, Claire wasn't looking for love when she first time-travelled into 18th century Scotland. But love quickly found her when she met Jamie (Sam Heughan).

"She's not here to have any kind of relationship with anybody, much less this young man. But nonetheless, there is a spark between the two of them," Moore said.

"When Claire first meets Jamie, the initial bond of patient and nurse is something that she can relate to," Balfe stated.

For "Outlander" author Diana Gabaldon, this irresistible pull comes from the fact that Claire feels important and needed when she's with Jaimie, something that she doesn't feel with her modern-day husband, Frank Randall.

She explained, "With Jamie, in the 18th century, once they come together she is Jamie's wife, but she is still very much the healer, the conjurer woman. She has her own destiny and she can fulfill it with Jamie."

As for Balfe, the actress said that she thinks it's Jaime's "timelessness" that made Claire want to know him more. "Even though he is a man of that time there is something timeless about him. And there's something quite modern about his willingness to kind of change his viewpoint, or learn, or be open to new ideas," she said.

Their undeniable chemistry, star-crossed fates, and forbidden love will be explored further in the series' season two. Claire and Jamie will be travelling to Paris and face challenges to their relationship.

"Outlander" season two will air in Spring 2016. Meanwhile, as reported by E! Online, the show has recently released the DVD Collector's Edition for its season one. Included in the DVD are commentaries, bloopers and outtakes. One deleted scene shows Claire and Jamie at Castle Leoch after their wedding, arguing for the first time as husband and wife.
