Facebook’s Improved News Feed Could Be Good for Realty Listings

Facebook has announced a "fresh, new look" for the news feed page that will emphasize more on photos, videos and links. This might generate an increased interest in realty listing photos and its social media presence.

Facebook's revamped news feed page aims at complete personalization of the home page and easier access to popular choice-based content. The design lets users see specialized streams of posts by close friends.

According to Inman.com, the new design could create more interest among users for online photos of real estate listings and give a boost to sales as well.

In a recent report compiled jointly by Google and the National Association of Realtors (NAR), it was observed that online real estate searches on Google went up 243 percent in the past four years.

According to the report, buyers search most frequently for number of bedrooms and bathrooms, amenities like garage, swimming pools, ventilation and heating. A listing with good pictures has more potential to sell.

"Increasingly, online technologies are driving offline behaviors, and home buying is no exception. With 90 percent of home buyers searching online during their home buying process, the real estate industry is smart to target these people where they look for and consumer information - for example through paid search, relevant websites, video environments, and mobile applications," Patrick Grandinetti , Google Head of Real Estate said in the report.

Online listings and home searches have gained a lot of popularity in the past few years. As the world grows more dependent on technology and automation, real estate searches, listings and sales have adapted accordingly.

Facebook claims that the design is aimed at getting rid of excess clutter. It also looks like one of the strategies to hold on to their advertisers and sponsors. Julie Zhuo, the director of design at Facebook said that the new design will work really well for pages, brands and businesses.
