Alec Baldwin Sold Little-Used Condo in Downtown Manhattan for $2.1 M

Variety's Real Estalker writer Mark David reported that actor, producer and comedian Alec Baldwin recently sold his 8th floor condo unit at Devonshire House building, located at 28 East 10th Street in Greenwich Village, for a hearty amount of $2.1 million.

The 840 square foot property features one bedroom and one bathroom, and is finished with four-inch oak floors and solid core doors. Its kitchen, though compact, is well-equipped and has top of the line appliances. The dining area is rather small. The apartment's bathroom, which is discreetly situated on a short corridor connecting the living room to the bedroom, has counter tops made of Calcutta marble. Its tiled floor, made of Thassos marble, follows a heated basket weave pattern.

The listing for this property described it as "rarely used by its owner." Baldwin bought this unit in 2013 for $2.25 million and first had it listed in March 2015 for the price of $2.35 million. It was eventually sold to, as David put it, "an inscrutable corporate concern for just $2.1 million." The $150,000 loss was rather significant considering that it does not include yet improvements, upkeep and other real estate costs of the unit.

Baldwin, who was once a proud New Yorker, furiously expressed in New York Magazine in the early part of 2014 that his beloved city has become an "unliveable" place for him and his family. Speculations have it that he will be trading NYC for Los Angeles or another locale, which is why he has started to unload some of this Manhattan properties. And he already did this with one of the three apartments that he and his yoga instructor wife, Hilaria Thomas, owns in Devonshire.

Property records show that a multi-acre spread in East Hampton was bought by the 30 Rock and Hunt for Red October star, with his then wife Kim Basinger, in two separate transactions closed in 1996, for a total amount of $1.8 million.

After this, the Baldwins went on to acquire a more spacious and, needless to say, more expensive 4,137-square-foot duplex penthouse in October 2011 for $11.709 million. A neighbouring one-bedroom and one-bath was likewise purchased in June 2012 for $1,210,950. The double-terraced penthouse was for rent last spring at $30,000 per month, but disappeared in the listing a few days after.
