Nintendo Cuts 2DS Price, Wants You to Buy Your Kids One

In an obvious move to increase sales, Nintendo just announced that they were going to slash the price of the Nintendo 2DS to only $99. It's already a great deal to have but bundling the Mario Kart 7 title to it makes it a steal for its price. It's not just the lowered price that the company wants buyers to focus on though. The 2DS is also capable of playing 3DS games which is a big selling point that not too many console makers offer.

In an article posted in techcrunch.com, experts look at this move by Nintendo as a very savvy one. The company has shipped over 53 million units as of June 30 and its still growing. However, the strong sales still fail to compare with the massive success of the Nintendo DS which recorded a whopping 154 million units disposed.

In the same post in techcrunch.com, the 3DS is already 4 years old which means it's cheaper to produce today than the first time it came out in 2011. This smart strategy implemented by Nintendo makes people want to buy a premium gaming console for their kids but for a lesser price. However, the games they offer are priced from $30-$40 for each title which translates to bigger profits for the company.

According to a report that appeared in arstechnica.com, consumers should be aware that the marked down 2DS price doesn't mean they will get the same specs as the ones they can find in 3DS. First up, the 2DS lacks a stereoscopic 3D and its design is uncomfortable since it doesn't fold. A smaller screen size and the fact that it can't play new 3DS titles because of chipset compatibility issues; new generation of 3DS units use a new chipset which is not compatible with 2DS. Nonetheless, with this move, Nintendo is aiming to convince parents to get their kids one.
