August 9, 2015 marks the day of Independence of Singapore 50 years after it was ejected from the Malaysian federation due to some union disputes.
History was made witness on how the country fought its way up against the effects of being ejected from the union. Faced with problems of massive unemployment rate, housing shortages and lack of land and natural resources, the country together with their first Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew was able to overcome the hurdles and raised their standard of living.
As a testament of their support for the country and its continuous transformation, tens of thousands of people flocked the outdoor parade actively participating on the many events. One of the many highlights during the said celebration was the acrobatic aerial display of fighter planes which on their drill formed number 50 up in the sky. A massive display of military forces also took place to show off the country's defense capacity.
The event preparations which cost $15 million culminated at historic Padang, the large field in the middle of the city. Padang as the place for culmination served as a lens through which Singapore showed some highlights to the world how it has been 50 years after its independence.
