Coconut Grove House in Miami Has a Jungle Feel

There is a house in Coconut Grove's Camp Biscayne area, where the neighborhood gives off a natural jungle feeling because of its unique landscape. This contemporary house was perfectly designed by Shulman + Associates and has been featured by the Dwell magazine because of its exotic charm.

According to Miami Curbed, the designer, Architect Allan Shulman, had told Dwell that "(i)t didn't seem like the kind of landscape you wanted to go trudging through with your boots, but one that you wanted to observe with detachment." Shulman added that the landscape is very important to every house, so they exert so much effort in emphasizing the landscape.

According to Dwell magazine, the house was inspired by the jungle scenery of painter Henri Rousseau. It features a two-story home on a leafy lot dominated by a "solution hole." The hole was a depression in the limestone terrain caused by erosion.

To be able to restore the delicate habitat, Shulman placed the stepped house between the forested basin and a sunny clearing. This unique effort highlights the flora and fauna. A glass-enclosed living room and two decks cantilever was installed at the front of the property, which gives a relaxing view.

Dwell magazine also added that the property consists of a floating boardwalk. The backyard space, filled with pavers and Mondo grass, is accessible through a first floor breezeway. The swimming pool and outdoor kitchen features beautiful paintings and arts created by David Hockney.

The magazine noted that Shulman gave an exceptional touch to the backyard, while the front yard brings a nature preserved view.

The interior is mesmerizing as it features neutral and muted tones. Dark stone and wood are also used throughout the interiors, which was planned to highlight the views of the property. The ground level contains the living and dining spaces.

Two bedrooms are installed upstairs, plus the master suite. An outbuilding on the opposite side of the property is used as a game room.

Robust materials were used in building the home, along with it, flexible floor plans for future renovations.
