The Olympus Air Lens A01 was launched only in Japan last February 2015 and finally will be introduced in the U.S. by July with a market value of $300 only.
Prior to Olympus' official announcement of making the Air A01 available in the United States this coming July for $300, PetaPixel stated that it was a product sold only in Japan. It is a practically a camera minus the screen in the form of a lens and by pairing it with your smartphone or tablet without the use of wires. Your phone will serve as your screen and user interface.
The Air A01 was compared by DP Review to Sony's QX1 lens camera but slightly smaller, emphasizing on distinct features such as the 16MP Four Thirds sensor and Micro Four Thirds lens mount. A bluetooth LE connectivity where one can turn on/off the product by simply opening the newly developed and dedicated OA.Central app. The OA.Central App enables you to instantaneously transfer photos taken to your social networks, email and Amazon Cloud Drive. It also features a microSD memory card and has a built-in rechargeable battery when fully charged can take up to 320 shots. A silent electronic shutter substitutes the mechanical form giving the user a 1/16000 sec shutter speed. The Coupling accessory or 'clamp' allows you to firmly attach your smartphone or tablet and can even accommodate the large Galaxy Note 4.with an angled mount it can give you flexibility in viewing and taking pictures in different angles. One can also use the lens separate from your gadget since it is already connected enabling the user to take photos of themselves while on a selfie-stick or tripod while viewing the interface and operating the Air A01 on their gadgets separately.
Engadget gave additional features such as the TruePic VII image-processing chip, Raw capture, the ability to record a video of 1080p at 10-frames-per-second in consecutive shooting mode, WiFi and a compatible app for Android, iOs and Amazon's Kindle . Just pitch in an additional $200 and a 14-42 EZ lens will be included in your order.
For a total of $500 you get both the Olympus Air A01 Camera and the 14-42 EZ lens in two color forms of black and white.
