‘Mega Man’ Creator Wants To Return Character To Its Glory Days

Legendary "Mega Man" creator Keiji Inafune is hoping to revitalize the Japanese game industry back to its glory days and serve as an inspiration for other Japanese game developers to come up with games that will be as globally successful as his Capcom legacy "Mega Man".  Meanwhile, Digital Eclipse and Capcom will be releasing a 'Mega Man Legacy Collection' that had game fans excited during last week's E3 convention.

According to Wired, Inafune noticed the decline of the Japanese game industry over the past years, citing that it had fallen from its prestigious place in the global gaming ranks, with only a handful of Japanese creations making it to the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) this year.  The former Capcom executive is hoping that his current projects will be enough of a trigger to inspire the Japanese game development community.  "My energy, my essence of me being Japanese and putting these ideas into what will hopefully be a global success is what I'm hoping will stir more energy, more positive vibes... in our game development community back home," he said at last week's E3 Expo.

Inafune has been keeping himself busy finishing his Kickstarted game "Mighty No. 9", as well as taking on an Xbox game project called "Recore".  He currently heads his own game studio 'Comcept', where's he's finishing "Mighty No. 9", a game that could be considered as a spiritual successor to "Mega Man".   An article in Engadget reports Inafune stressing that 'Mighty No. 9' is an evolution of the Capcom series rather than a direct sequel.  "We didn't really think about [making] another copy of Mega Man," he says. "In a way, I wanna kind of evolve this genre and this action platformer kind of genre with this game. So, yes, we had Mega Man in mind at some point, but we didn't just want to copy that."

On the other hand, Capcom and Digital Eclipse has announced during the E3 convention, that they will be releasing a "Mega Man Legacy Collection" which includes six of the bestselling "Mega Man" games, reports Hardcore Gamer. The collection is packed not only with the improved visuals of the six fantastic games, along with an in-game museum, tons of challenges and a music player with every track available, it also has game extra's such as leaderboard support and visual filters.

The "Mega Man Legacy Collection" will be available sometime this summer for Xbox One, PS4 and PC, with a Nintendo 3DS version scheduled for release later in the winter.  Meanwhile, Inafune's "Mighty No. 9" will be out on Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, PC, Linux, and Mac on September 15, with Vita and 3DS versions slated for a later release.
