After dominating the world of smartphones, Apple is supposedly going to go back to its roots and is looking revive its iPod line by including a slew of new features in their next-gen release.
Apple once dominated the market with its iPod music devices but with popularity of the all-in-one feature of smartphones, the fanfare for handheld music devices has since died down. Now, the Cupertino-based company is rumored to be interested in bringing its iPod line back to the forefront of its product offerings.
According to Venture Capital, its been noted that three Apple events have come and gone and the company has remained quiet on the iPod devices. The last upgrade made on the device was back in 2012 when the iPod Touch (5th generation) was released.
Expected iPod Features
In a new report by Master Herald, in addition to features like water-resistance and Siri-compatibility, we could see the next-gen iPod sporting features that would rival that of the iPhone.
Incorporated in its menu of new features would be Apple's mobile system, Apple Pay. This would be on top of the rumored A9 microprocessor and pre-installed iOS 9. Moreover, there is also talk of a possible two-model option, a 4.7-inch screen and a larger "Plus" model coming in at 5.5-inches. The iPod Touch 6 may also come with Touch ID sensor, improved battery life, iSight camera and compatibility to Apple's first wearable technology, the Apple Watch.
Depending on your lifestyle and preference, there are more color options available for the upcoming iPod which consumers supposedly offered a six color range which would include yellow, space grey, pink, silver red and blue.
iPod 6th Generation Release Date & Price
There are varying reports as to when we could see the iPod 6 unveiling. Some believe we could see it in the fall, the typical release for Apple products. It's possible that the iPod 6 could release with the other expected updates like the iOS 9, rumored larger iPad Pro and the next line of iPhones (either the iPhone 6S or iPhone 7).
The price of the iPod 6 is expected to begin at $250 with the price set to increase with higher specs.
