'American Horror Story' Season 5 Plot & Cast: Show to Feature 'The Shining' Theme? Sarah Paulson Shows Off Villainous Character in 'Baddest' Role

"American Horror Story" Season 5 will be back on TV by October but fans of the FX horror show are very excited to know how the show will be connected to its previous four seasons. However, Brad Falchuk and Ryan Murphy confirmed very minimal information about the upcoming season.

For now, the show's fandom only have rumors to get by. According to the latest speculation, Season 5 will have a theme quite similar to "The Shining" by Stephen King, according to Venture Capital Post.

Moreover, it was announced that one of the series regulars, Sarah Paulson, will be returning to the show. This time around, however, she will be playing the role of the villain. "Sarah Paulson is checking into 'Hotel,'" Murphy wrote on Twitter. "And, this season, she is the baddest bad girl of them all. #AHSSeason5."

For the entire duration of the show since it kicked off with "Murder House," this is the very first time that Paulson will be featured as a villain. According to Latin Times, she will start filming her scenes later this summer, which will be sometime after the production for her part as Marcia Clark in yet another Murphy show, "American Crime Story," would be wrapped up.

Murphy and Falchuk clearly have a lot of horror tricks hidden up their sleeves. Moreover, incorporating a classic horror theme into the mix may not be a bad idea. Since Season 5 will be about a hotel, "The Shining" can be a good reference for its storyline.

Although relating the show to "The Shining" may mean more supernatural connections, it is not necessarily a bad thing. The very first season of "American Horror Story," titled "Murder House," was about a family haunted by the ghosts of those who used to live in their new house.

Hence, show runners can adapt a similar direction using the ghosts of those who died due to manic hotel activity. Some speculations pointed out that only the elevator might be haunted, or at least one of the building's floors. However, incorporating the horror plot into the entire hotel would be more interesting.

Paulson will be joined by Cheyenne Jackson, Chloe Sevigny, Matt Bomer, Wes Bentley, Kathy Bates, and Lady Gaga. Finn Wittrock, Michael Chiklis, and Evan Peters confirmed when they appeared on this year's PaleyFest that they wanted to return, but no new details were provided on whether they will be returning to the series franchise.
