Kathy Bates’ participation in the upcoming “American Horror Story” Season 5 has just been confirmed by the show’s co-creator, Ryan Murphy. He took to social media to tell his fans and followers that another alumnus from the hit FX horror show will be making a comeback for an unspecified role.
“Kathy Bates is running the Hotel,” Murphy wrote on his official Twitter page. “#AHSSeason5.”
Bates is not the only returning character for the show’s fifth season. Chloe Sevigny, Matt Bomer, and Wes Bentley will be re-introduced to the audience, in addition to the newcomers such as Lady Gaga and Cheyenne Jackson.
Although earlier reports may have indicated that Gaga, whose real name is Stefanie Germanotta, is most likely going to manage the Hotel, The International Business Times reported that Bates is more fitting for the role. Now that it has been confirmed that Jessica Lange will not be returning to the show, it is highly likely that Bates will be taking on the reins as the new person-in-charge.
If these rumors pan out, then Bates will be replacing one of the show’s biggest and most significant stars especially since Lange has been with the show since it started. She was Constance Langdon in “Monster House, Sister Jude in “Asylum,” the Supreme witch Fiona Goode in “Coven,” and Elsa Mars in “Freak Show.”
Bates only started to be part of the show in Season 3, “Coven.” She played the role of a socialite serial killer, Delphien LaLaurie – which won her an Outstanding Supporting Actress award at the recent Emmy Awards. She was also featured in “Freak Show” as the Bearded Lady, named Ethel Darling, who was also the mother of Lobster Boy, the character played by Evan Peters.
Meanwhile, it remains unclear whether Peters will be returning to the show, as reported by The Hollywood Reporter. However, he did mention during the recent PaleyFest that he is very open to the notion of coming back. To date, there has been no confirmation regarding his participation.
Fans of “American Horror Story” will have to wait a bit longer to find out if the other series regulars will be returning to the show such as Dennis O’Hare, Frances Conroy, Sarah Paulson, and Lily Rabe, as reported by Independent.
“American Horror Story” Season 5 will be returning to small screens by October this year, still on FX.
