'Soprano' Star Drea De Matteo Loses NY Apartment in Explosion

Actress Drea De Matteo was one of the New York residents who lost their home during the East Village building explosion that happened on Thursday.

The "Sopranos" star shared the news over her social media account as she posted an Instagram shot from the ground showing New York's finest battling the massive flames.

"NYC's finest trying to put out the flames to mine [and] many others' apartments," wrote the 43-year-old star.

Following the image, she posted another one that showed the collapsed building and shared that she had just lost her NYC home of 22 years. "A hole where my NYC home of the last 22 years once stood...RIP [her address]," captioned the star of the tragic moment.

The New York Times reported that the fire began in the sushi restaurant located at the lower ground of residence where a gas line was supposedly hit by construction workers.

Mayor Bill de Blasio reported that an investigation on the incident has been opened but is in the early stages. He further added that, "there is a possibility that the gas line was inappropriately accessed internally by people in the building."

The investigation is said to be focused on plumbing and gas work that was currently happening at Sushi Park.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with every one of them and their families. Of course, we are praying that no other individuals are injured and there are no fatalities," quoted People of Mayor Bill de Blasio.

The publication shared that multiple injuries were reported, specifically, nineteen people, four of which were in critical condition while five were members of the New York Fire Department, confirmed CBS New York.

The fire brought down both 119 and 121 Second Avenue while nearby 125 Second Avenue still stands, the structure has sustained major fire damages.

Other stars who resided in the building were quick to offer their words of sympathy. Charlotte Ronson, a former resident of the building quickly offered words of comfort to Matteo via Instagram saying, "I love you and am so sorry beyond words."

In addition, co-founder of Hello Giggles, Sophia Rossi re-posted the image and recalled memories at the property. "Such good memories living here with @chrissiemiller @hilarykoyfman @dreadematteo @cjronson," wrote Rossi and tagged a number of people including de Matteo.

Similarly, "Modern Family" actress Sarah Hyland recalled her own childhood memorie. Taking to Twitter to express her sadness, the star shared that she grew up in the area.
