When you finish a personal goal, you have a strong sense of achievement, especially when it involves fixing and improving things around the house. This explains the growing popularity of DIY home projects.

You don't need everything when you begin an independent, do-it-yourself home renovation project. But it is important to have the right tools on hand. What you need are the gadgets and machines that help you manifest your vision.

To cite an example, think of an old-school manual saw, the one you literally swing back and forth as it sinks deeper into the wood. A saw like that may have its uses, but modern tools such as an automatic saw that guide you as you cut wood in precise shapes is really what you need as the requirements in personally renovating your own house will only keep getting more complicated.

Aside from power saws, here are other leading power tools that can assist you in many different ways.

The electric oscillating multi-tool

This is a handheld device that can be used for sanding, removing caulks, or cutting, with the option of using different blades. The advantage of this tool is that it can reach small areas, unlike larger power tools. The various blade selections will enable you to cut wood and nails or even through the drywall. Its price ranges from $30 to $130 for advanced models.

Table saw

A table saw is a mechanical saw mounted on a flat surface similar to a table. This is considered as one of the most versatile among woodworking equipment. You can use it to rip, cross-cut, or miter-cut wood stocks, among other uses.

While this is an integral part of any DIY mechanic, it needs maintenance, and it can also be the most dangerous. Just follow the common-sense rules in the instruction manual, and you should be fine. You can purchase a table saw from $250 to $500.

Miter saw

A miter saw is a specialized tool, recommended only for professionals or those who know how to use it properly. The blade is under a swing arm that you can pivot to come up with a variety of angled cuts.

The miter saw helps you create cuts for crown molding, door frames, picture frames, and window casings, or any work that needs angled cuts in two planes, among other uses. This tool also has built-in features such as positive stops to make precise cuts, and depth stops to help adjust the blade height. A miter saw can cost you from $150 to $200.

Cordless drills

Having a drill is expected of professional builders. Drills used to be connected to a power source, making its use a bit awkward. A cordless drill, on the other hand, is highly recommended by carpenters and home renovation specialists.

Since drills are electrical tools, their voltage shows their capabilities and potential: the greater the voltage, the more powerful the drill is. It usually runs on 12 to 18 volts, but you can also use this with 6 to 12 volts for small and light jobs around the house. A cordless drill goes from $99 to $169 and is a popular gift item during Father's Day.

Orbital sander

An orbital sander is another handheld tool used on a wooden surface before and after painting it. The tool enables the user to achieve extraordinary smooth sanding. The orbital sander, as its name suggests, moves only in an orbital or circular movement.

This is different from a random orbital sander, which can also move back and forth because they have different oscillations. The orbital sander costs around $75 in the tools department, more or less.
