Nexus 6, Nexus 5, Nexus 9 Android 5.1 Lollipop Update Delayed, No New Features Only System Bug Repairs? [Rumors]

The rollout for the Android 5.1 Lollipop update is expected soon as the many discussions regarding the update and sightings of pre-loaded devices have been spotted.

When it comes to the Nexus line of smartphones, it was reported earlier that many sources, including PhoneArena, claimed that the update was expected in February.

However, according to AndroidGeeks, the update has been delayed and is estimated to rollout sometime in March.

"Apparently, the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, Nexus 10, and other supported devices will be released in March. The information comes to HTC's Mo Versi, who said on Twitter that Google's next Android Maintenance Release will be made available in March," wrote the website.

With regards to what the update will bring, the site claims that users can't expect much in terms of new features as the focus has been on system performance, functionality and bug repairs.

"It seems though that in Android 5.1 the WiFi and Bluetooth toggles in Quick Settings will behave differently," analyzed the publication.

For those holding the newest Nexus terminals, the Nexus 6 and 9, you can expect to get the first wave upgrade to 5.1 while other devices, namely the "Nexus 4, Nexus 5, Nexus 7, and Nexus 10 [the update] will be pushed to users in stages."

The Tweet from Mo Versi teased a March release. Versi responded to a Twitter user inquiring on the ETA of a bug fix update.

Versi replied to the query by stating that "It'll be tied to Google's next MR, which is in March."

The Android Authority analyzed that while Versi didn't specify that the update was the Android 5.1 Lollipop, "if the update were an existing 5.0.x release (the M7 GPE never got 5.0.2), you'd think that he would have called it that instead of MR (Maintenance Release). Of course, it could just be that Google is prepping another 5.0.x release, but with 5.1 already in the wild - we find it likely that it will arrive to GPe and Nexus devices sooner, rather than later."

Google has previously confirmed that the Android 5.1 Lollipop is coming but did not officially announce the launch details. Based on the past process of Google's OS rollout, audiences can expect the launch to begin in the Android Open Source Project for developers then a staggered rollout as the firm rarely provides updates to all users across the board.
