Mobile Burn confirmed that Samsung has just started to roll out the Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S4. The Korean tech company has a lot of handsets to send the update to, which could mean that it might take a while before all their devices are updated.
News regarding the distribution of the much awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop to the Samsung Galaxy S4 and the Motorola Moto X immediately spread like wildfire. Although Galaxy S4 users have a reason to rejoice, the same could not be said for Moto X users.
Some versions of the Galaxy S4 in various countries in Europe and Russia have already received the update, while India has recently joined the mix. The report disclosed that apart from getting Material Design, the new update also gives the device a new look for its TouchWiz Android UI.
Galaxy S4 users in India, those with the Exynos chipset model, who have no intention of waiting for the patch can simply do it manually by logging on to live.samsung-updates.com.
Meanwhile, Motorola has already sent the Lollipop update to all of their contraptions, except one. Sadly for Moto X users, the update is still in its testing stage. With that said, it can only be assumed that it will be ready for distribution pretty soon. GSM Arena says that the update is still in the development phase due to some compatibility issues with the SoC.
A member of the XDA Developer Forum, named iamkiu, was the one who announced online that he already obtained the Android 5.0 Lollipop update for his Galaxy S4 in India. According to him, the size of the update is approximately 991 MB and is available via OTA or Over-the-Air as well as through Kies, says AndroidOS.
According to The International Business Times, the update was also released in Russia earlier this month. Android users have been advised to remain patient since the roll-out process of the OTA update comes in phases. The report says that it may take some time, maybe a few weeks, before the update reaches all devices around the world.
Samsung has so far given the Android 5.0 Lollipop update to its 2014 flagship devices, the Galaxy S5 and the Galaxy Note 3, in certain regions in Asia, Europe, and North America.
Once installation starts, Android users must remove certain apps, such as Google Movies, Google Books, and Google Play, to optimize the memory. This is no reason to fret though, since the apps can be easily re-installed once the optimization process is completed.
