LG G4 Specs & Release Date: Android 5.0 Lollipop Phone Arriving In May? [Rumors]

Fans awaiting the launch of the upcoming LG G4 may have to wait a little longer. Word is out that the Korean firm's flagship phone would be unveiled in May and not at the Mobile World Congress 2015 in March, as initially expected.

According to Master Herald, the company behind the G4 has decided against its launch in the MWC for fear that other units, which would be introduced then, would overshadow their device.

The G4 was expected by many to come out in March to match its Korean rival, Samsung, which has allegedly scheduled to release the Samsung Galaxy S6 at the said event in Barcelona, Spain.

Aside from Samsung, other phone companies are presumed to launch their own flagship phones at the MWC as the event has become one of the known avenues for unveiling new devices.

Based from the LG G's launch history, the current flagship unit, the G3, was unveiled in May 2014. Following this pattern, it is probable that LG would come out with its successor in May this year, noted Tech Radar.

The Korean firm could come up with their own event to launch the LG G4 unit to shy away from any other distractions.

But while those looking forward might be disappointed with this update, it may be for the better. One silver lining in the delay is that the new flagship phone could come already outfitted with an Optimus IU version of the new Android 5.0 Lollipop, said AndroidPit.

It could also mean that the unit would be installed with the better Android 5.1 Lollipop, which Google is reportedly scheduled to release on some devices by February.

Aside from the new OS, the successor to the G3 is rumored to pack some very powerful specifications. Rumor is out that while the G3 already includes a fingerprint option, the upcoming G4 might include a retina scanner for added security.

While it seems that LG would maintain the display size of the new phone to 5.5-inches, the company might make up for it with the resolution. Samsung is reportedly putting a 4K display on its upcoming Galaxy S6 and LG might go for something that is as competitive. A possible 3840 x 2160 pixel could come with the new LG G4.

Selfie lovers could also benefit from the upcoming phone. According to GforGames, the G4 might upgrade the current camera from 13MP in the G3 to 20.7MP in its successor. It also noted that an OIS correction angle of 0.7 might be considered for the new device.

Meanwhile, as the Korean firm is trying to launch fewer phones to cut on losses, it's possible that the new G4 would also come with an upgraded stylus pen. LG has already come out with a G Pen for its previous unit but it failed to catch on with mobile users.
