'Frozen 2' Release Date, Cast & Plot: Top 3 Rumors About Sequel Film

Ever since Disney blockbuster hit "Frozen" came out, hopes for a sequel to the Anna and Elsa story have been going around. With the movie raking in more than a billion worldwide, it seems only natural for the producers to come up with a second film.

In an interview with Idina Menzel, who voiced Elsa in the film, the actress told Telegraph that a possible follow-up is "all in the works." However, Menzel clarified that while a second movie is ideal, she is unsure if producers are keen on coming out with one despite its success.

The House of Mouse has remained mum on a second full-feature film but a statement has been released in the company's official blog that a short film called "Frozen Fever' is coming out soon. Slashfilm reported that Disney says the upcoming film takes place on Anna's birthday and both Kristoff and Elsa plan on hosting a celebration she would never forget.

But it seems that a short film is not enough to quench the thirst of "Frozen" fans. See the top 3 rumors on what to expect in the highly-anticipated but not-yet-announced "Frozen 2."

1. A Dark and Mature Storyline. While the first film was light and fun, Ecumenical News reported that the upcoming film may take its cue from the original story of "The Snow Queen," written by Hans Christian Anderson. One possibility is the addition of a wicked troll armed with a dangerous magic mirror. The troll is said to have the ability to show everyone what he wants them to see via the mirror and he turned the hearts and eyes of the people of Arendelle so they would only see the bad around them.

Another speculation is the addition of an evil Snow Queen that takes children from the city of Arendelle captive.

2. A Love Interest for Elsa. Ever since Anna found Kristoff in her life, many fans are eager for Elsa to find her love too. But as a Snow Queen whose powers could turn any heart into ice, fans are left wondering if there's a man who could possibly enter Elsa's life. Some think that Jack Frost from Dreamworks' "The Rise of the Guardians" is the best match since they both have the same powers. Such was the belief of fans that an online petition has been created to bring the two characters together in one film.

3. Jennifer Lawrence to Join the Cast of "Frozen." According to Hollywood Life, Lawrence's rendition of "The Hanging Tree" in "Mockingjay Part 1" has impressed Disney producers to the point that they are considering her for a role in the sequel film. However, Disney or anyone from the actress' side has not confirmed this.

The short film is expected to come out in March 2015 and Slashfilm noted that Disney producers plan to release this just before the live-action version of Cinderella.

No word is out on the release date of "Frozen 2" yet and there's no official trailer too. But, check out a fan-made trailer below.
