Windows 10 Release Date, Download & Preview: Smartphone & Tablet to Receive Beta OS

While a preview version of the Windows 10 operating system has been made available to desktop users, the tech firm behind the new system is looking at making the said beta version accessible to smartphones and tablets soon.

According to The Verge, Microsoft is set to release its trial version of the new system for phone and tablet use by the end of this month. In preparation for the launch, the company came up with an application, "Phone Insider" at the Windows app store during the weekend.

While fans await the official release of the new OS, the new app gives "registered users the ability to participate in pre-release phone update programs offered by Microsoft," as reported by PC World. Those who are able to download the trial version are requested to give feedback to developers via a certain website.

The highly-awaited system brings about a new era for Windows devices. In earlier editions, tablets and smartphones running on Windows OS have two different systems, reported Digital Trends. In Windows 10, the company decided to use only one system for both devices. This way, users would have a seamless experience of the system, whether they use a tablet or a smartphone.

With the same OS, Microsoft also hopes to increase the number of applications available to their users in the app store. App developers have struggled in the past because of the difference in the system. With the update, developers who wish to create applications would need not worry anymore whether it's compatible to either device as both would have the same system running.

In line with this, BGR, citing The Verge, notes that the new OS "will be a mix of Windows Phone and Windows RT, as the company wants to align its mobile, Xbox and desktop software versions to offer users the same experience."

The tech company has also transformed the way themes are seen on the Windows 10 desktop. The new system would incorporate light and dark themes, which are almost the same as the interface of the current Windows Phone, said The Verge, in another report.

The beta version of the new Windows 10 not yet available to the public and is currently limited to Microsoft employees. However, it is rumored that the company would make it accessible to users with other Windows OS so they could get feedback.

The company is scheduled to have a press event on January 21, which would detail the features of the new OS. Some people believe that access to non-employees might also be announced on the same day.
