NBA Free Agents Rumors: Marc Gasol Open to Signing With Los Angeles Lakers?

Memphis Grizzlies center Marc Gasol will become an unrestricted free agent in the offseason and reports indicated that the Los Angeles Lakers are planning to make a strong push to acquire the Spaniard next summer.

The Lakers, who are currently in 14th place in the Eastern Conference standings with their 11-24 record, are expected to lure big-name free agents in the offseason in the hope of becoming a playoff contender again.

When asked about the possibility of playing in Los Angeles next season, Gasol, whose brother spent more than six seasons with the Lakers, said that he will consider offer from any team, including from Purple and Gold.

"I won't say no to anything right now," Gasol said via InsideSoCal. "If it's presented to me, I'll think about it. If not, I won't."

Gasol, who is averaging 19.8 points to go along with 8.2 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game this season, was actually selected by the Lakers as their 48th overall pick in the 2007 NBA Draft. The Lakers then traded his rights in the deal that sent Pau Gasol to Los Angeles.

"I don't think they knew the player I was," Gasol said of the Lakers' decision to trade him for his brother. "Nobody knew. Even today, I don't think I'm the player I can still be. You never know. You make a decision and you have your side. They got a pretty good result having Pau for 6 ½ years."

Aside from the Lakers, several teams are expected to express interest in acquiring the 29-year-old center, including the San Antonio Spurs and New York Knicks. The Grizzlies are also poised to offer a lucrative deal to Gasol in order to keep their core intact.

Previous reports indicated that Gasol is leaning toward staying in Memphis, but the seven-year veteran clarified that he is not yet thinking about free agency and will consider all options in the offseason before deciding on what is best for his future and his family.

"I haven't weighed anything yet," Gasol said via LA Daily News. "We'll sit down and have a human eye-to-eye conversation. We'll see what we're looking for the next four or five years of my life with this team, different teams and my family. Whatever decision I make, it would be the best."
