Celebrity Homes for Sale: Kirk Douglas’ Former Palm Springs Estate Listed for $3.45M

Actor Kirk Douglas's former Las Palmas estate is back on the market for $3.45 million. According to Los Angeles Curbed, reports say that the 1954 Douglas house was designed for Robert Howard, the owner of the Colony Palms hotel in Palm Springs but then sold the property to the actor in the late 1950s.

Douglas and his wife Anne then lived inside the home until 1999 when the current owners of the estate finally bought the place. For those who are interested in buying the property, they would be basically become neighbors with Academy Award winner Leonardo DiCaprio who lives in his Dinah Shore home, which he purchased back in 2014.

According to the Desert Sun, the home was designed by noted architect Donald Wexler and it was his second custom home following his Lilliana Gardens house which was also completed in 1954. It was reported that the interior of the home has an open floor plan which features corridors that are defined with stone half walls and are tall enough to separate the rooms but short enough to let natural light come in. It was said that Douglas expanded the living area in 1976 and added a formal dining room.

The 4,000-square-foot house has four en suite bedrooms on one wing and the other wing is where the living area and the refurbished kitchen are. There is also another bedroom on this side of the home.

Douglas also added a swimming pool, spa, pool house, gym building and carport to the grounds. The current sellers of the home also added and changed a few details like the home's wallpaper and updated the kitchen decorations.

The residence sits on about three-quarters of an acre and the grounds also has a tennis court, pavilion and the back building could be used as a gymnasium. The pool house is decorated with posters from Douglas' films like "Spartacus," "20,000 Leagues Under the Sea" and "Trumbo."
