Boxing News 2014: Manny Pacquiao is Tougher Foe than Floyd Mayweather, Says Amir Khan

Amir Khan believes that Manny Pacquiao is a tougher opponent than Floyd Mayweather, but the British boxer said that he is willing to face both boxing superstars in 2015.

Khan said that he will have a harder time dealing with Pacquiao because of the Filipino boxing icon's combination of speed and power, while Mayweather is a more tactical opponent. The Bolton, England native previously trained with Pacquiao when he was still under trainer Freddie Roach.

"Manny Pacquiao is a tougher fight because he is more explosive and has more power while with Mayweather, it is more a game of chess," Khan said via BoxingScene. "They are both great fighters and both big names. I want to be in the hall of fame one day and I want them to say that I am a great fighter. I need those type of fights."

Khan, who holds a 30-3 record with 19 knockout victories, has been lobbying for a fight against Mayweather since late last year, but the reigning pound-for-pound king opted to face Marcos Maidana twice this year.

The 28-year-old feels that he deserves a shot against Mayweather, pointing out that his style will put the unbeaten champion into trouble if they collide inside the ring next year.

"I really believe that Floyd will have big problems with my speed, movement and accuracy," Khan said via Sky Sports. "Floyd is one of the best fighters in the world, don't get me wrong, but I want my chance."

Khan is confident that he is now one step closer to landing his dream bout against Mayweather after he scored an impressive win against Devon Alexander. He cruised to a unanimous decision victory, winning in all scorecards by a wide margin -- 119-108, 118-100 and 120-108.

"I really believe that I've earned my shot at the best fighter in the world which is Floyd Mayweather," Khan said. "Khan versus Mayweather will be huge, the UK fans will come to watch and come to support and we're going to take the belt off him."

But if Mayweather decides to go into a different direction again, Khan and Golden Boy Promotions president Oscar De La Hoya said that they will look to arrange a showdown against Pacquiao next year.
