Green Living: The Small Steps to Take for a Smarter Home

The advancement of technology was once thought of as a contributor to the destruction of the environment. However, times have changed and technology is now becoming a friend to the environment, as new systems and products now aim towards conserving energy and reducing our carbon footprint. How can you transform your house into a smarter home?

Many years ago, people thought that the only way to save energy is by installing solar panels at home. However, solar panels were very expensive during its early stages, which made it seem like a luxury rather than a necessity.

With the recent advancement of technology, however, solar panels are no longer the only ones to help us conserve energy and save the Earth from further destruction. According to Realty Times, recent advancements in home appliances and products are now aimed at green living.

Heating and cooling systems, which often contribute to a huge percentage of electric bills in the U.S., can now be controlled and manipulated even when the owners aren't home. The publication noted that home automation can help lower electric bills and save energy, as the system will automatically shut down when there is no one at home.

This alone can help save you a couple of bucks on electric bills. Aside from this, the publication noted that smart appliances are now becoming readily available on the market. Several appliances are now equipped with LED control panels and are more energy-efficient than older versions.

Households are also being encouraged to go solar, as the federal tax credit has been extended till 2016. As previously reported here on Realty Today, the government is now offering an extension of the federal tax credit to homeowners who will install solar panels at home this year.

The overall costs of installing one have also been reduced. This would help encourage more people into installing solar panels at home, save the environment and prevent the worsening effects of global warming.
