Miley Cyrus New Song 2014: 'Look What They’ve Done to My Song' Cover Studio Version - Listen & Download

"Wrecking Ball" singer Miley Cyrus releases a studio-version cover of Melanie Safka's song "Look What They've Done to My Song, Ma" for the satiric film "Free the Nipple," Just Jared reported.

The former Disney star, who has now declared her independence from her former innocent image, has recently recorded a high-definition studio version of Safka's 1971 single which she sang during her "Backyard Sessions."

Cyrus' version of the song is featured during the ending credits of Director Lina Esco's true-to-life movie based on a campaign with the same name which addresses taboos deemed by the society about the exposure of female breasts in public.

According to Esco in an interview with Variety, the young pop star's cover of the '70s song was chosen as an official soundtrack of her film because of her "raw voice" which matches the song's own rawness. She reportedly met Cyrus when they both starred in the 2012 film "LOL."

According to Esco, many states have laws against women going topless in public while men can legally show their chests without being reprimanded. The female director decided to voice out her opposition to the act through the campaign "Free the Nipple" in 2013.

According to Variety, the campaign already has 122,000 followers after the feminist director coined the phrase "Free the Nipple" and shared it on the social media.

Since it became viral, the movement has been championed by popular female celebrities such as Liv Tyler, Lena Dunham and Rihanna.

Esco created the film to draw attention to the worn-down issue of gender equality and to "encourage discussion over America's glorification of violence and repression of sexuality," DirectLyrics.com reported.

"You can show beheadings on Facebook, but you can't show breastfeeding. If you're going to censor nudity and love, you should censor violence," the director stated, condemning society's out-of-placed censorship.

The plot of the film revolves around an army of advocates who initiated a revolution to "Free the Nipple" and decriminalize the female body.

According to the film's plot synopsis, the group decided to conquer New York City using graffiti installations and publicity stunts to protest unfair censorship laws in the U.S. through the help of First Amendment lawyers.
