Home Decorating Tips: Paint Color Mistakes You Should Avoid Inside Your Home

Trying a new color to lighten up the house? Make sure to avoid these common paint color mistakes people usually make.

Choosing the right color for a specific room inside the house can be confusing. It is an important decision which can affect the room's mood and how the furniture will look like. According to Elle Décor, the very first thing people usually do is to paint the ceiling flat white. It is the biggest wall inside the room that most people neglect to think about. The site suggested that instead of choosing white, go for something that has a cream shade.

Aside from that, another mistake people make when choosing a paint color is going too "matchy" with their furniture fabric. Matching wall colors to the fabric is a big no-no, and designers say that matching fabrics with wall color might be too strong for the room, so it is better to choose a paint color that is a grayed-out version of the fabric.

House Beautiful also listed some of the mistakes people make with paint colors, and one of them is people usually play it too safe when it comes to choosing one. When deciding to go with a palette of neutrals, it is important to add a few stronger colors to add enough contrast in the design of the room. Strong colors can add intense personality and drama inside the room and ensure that the space is classy and not boring.

Another major mistake people do when painting their home is using wildly different color schemes for each room. It is important to choose colors and styles that will still make the home feel as one and connected somehow.

While some may choose different palette for every room, there are also people who use the same color palette everywhere, and this is also not recommended. Although a two-color scheme can work for some rooms, adding variety and difference in personality in the other rooms will not make the house seem stiff.
