Paola Antonelli says otherwise and has committed to showing everyone how to understand that they all connect with each other in the end.
Antonelli says that design is not limited to decoration. It encompasses a wider scope because unlike how everyone sees it, it deals with more than just one sense of the body. It can include furnitures, digital arts, and optics.
She emphasized on the continuous creation of different materials that do not just appeal to the eyes, but also to the other senses. She said that designers should keep on innovating because of the constant changes and demands in the world.
As an example, she mentioned about the 3D printing technology, where high edge printers are used to make amazing feats. She also cited other examples, like the use of lighting to improve the ambience of a place.
She also mentioned about the changing materials that designers are using to create their pieces. One of the many hip materials used nowadays are the intelligent fibers and interactive textiles. These are currently used to make fashionable clothing with an avant garde feel.
She noted, however, that while technology has been an essential part of the designing industry, a large number of designers and engineers have been trying to envision a future where technology will no longer exist. They want to send, try and maximize voice operation, and they also want to regain our privacy.
She also commented on this matter by saying that designers are responsible for creating more designs that are environmentally friendly, most especially those that will offer durability. This is to make sure that they do not just create things that will be used in a short period of time.
Antonelli implied that designs should not just be about the aesthetic value that a masterpiece can give, it should also be functional enough so that they can contribute to the betterment of society.
