A crafty New Yorker and his roommates made the most of the circumstances by building an igloo during the largest snowstorms in New York City. They posted a listing in Airbnb Rental, stayed for six hours and was shut down for not meeting occupancy standards.
According to The Telegraph, Art Director, Partrick Horton, 28, and his roommates made a boutique winter igloo for two in a New York back garden at India Street in Greenpoint and decided to list it in a rental site Airbnb as a prank for only $200 a night. It was temporarily advertised as the coolest destination for a city break in the wake of Winter Storm Jonas. Their offer was listed in the "Igloos for rent in Brooklyn" section.
The Brooklyn listing was described as, "Built completely by hand all natural. Come experience this chic dome-style bungalow with Bae," using a hip term for loved one. Horton also added that their handiwork is dripping with creativity and alt-lifestyle appearance lays this snowpocalypse's most desirable getaway.
Before Airbnb Rental contacted him to say that the igloo failed to meet its occupancy standards he already received three inquiries for their igloo creation.
Meanwhile, in a report by New York Mag, the listing lasted for about six hours, and made the rounds on social media sites like Facebook and Reddit before Airbnb decided to shut it down Sunday night. An Airbnb representative wrote to Horton, saying that "We are happy to see that you guys are staying busy and having fun during Blizpocalypse. Unfortunately, your igloo, while very well constructed, has failed to meet our occupancy standards and has been removed from search results. Be sure to pick a place with running water, electricity, and a roof that doesn't melt."
